I bought the first one before even whispers of the movie...of course back then i had spent my days in a cave and didn't know about the athiest plot line. The book wasnt even very entertaining, It didn't use any type of metaphores or figures of speech, and to top it all off, it was an athiest piece of crap.
Of course, i dont need you to burn it. Mine is already ripped up and shredded across the fire place. Very Happy

It doesn't sound too appealling...

What is the book about? I mean other than dark materials...

P.S. sorry it was offensive to you. Are you religious? If so, I'll curb my dirty mouth in reply to your posts (not that I'm cursing up a storm usually or anything). Also, haven't seen the movie but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't really appeal to me even if I knew about it.

We'll burn an extra copy just in case!

Daniel,

I recently looked up the series on wikipedia. Turns out I have heard of 'em: The Golden Compass and all that. I also read you aren't the only one who thinks the guy is kind of insensitive about religion. If it was a brilliant book, I'd have to say disagree or not it might be worth a look. But I'm guessing that isn't the case with these books. In fact, they along with the Spiderwick Chronicles and all the rest just seem to be fulfilling a quota of what's popular at the moment. Just because it's teen fiction doesn't give it the excuse to be written in the quality of Twilight or Potter.

I just finished the complete trilogy and loved it. But maybe that's because I am myself and atheist piece of crap. I dare to say though, HDM is much more than that and it touches several valid points regarding spirituality, science and cosmology, it goes WAY beyond anti catholic church propaganda.

It is not teen literature at all, not even close to Spiderwick, that I can assure you (I read only the first book and I bought it because of the illustrations and the editorial design, really). Just because Hollywood takes all this books with loads of creature on them, dumbs them down and turn them into blockbusters to keep the offspring quiet for two hours, doesn't mean the books are lame.

Lol Godiva. I'm agnostic, so to most people I might as well be an "atheist piece of crap."

Perhaps I've too hastily judged. I did discover the series has a different UK name. Could never figure out why authors do that.

I find it offensive that you're pretty much calling atheists pieces of crap. I don't care that you hate the book. I personally liked it.

Frankly, the book had no atheist elements what-so-ever. You must be going off the media hype. The Christians hate it because it's popular and it's fantasy, which goes against God. Harry Potter had that issue.

I hate religion, frankly. Religion thinks it can run everything. If you think the book preaches atheism, then a book preaching christianity is no different. Atheism, like Christianity, is deemed a religion. It's no differnt.

I'm a proud agnostic. cheers

Yes, as you can see from my post above, I am agnostic as well (also, I'm not sure but I think that poster is no longer active...hasn't been on in a while).
